A good step forward in development of Agrofirma Tērvete – the company has successfully passed the certification audit, as a result of which it received a REDcert certificate, which confirms that the biological liquefied natural gas or bioLNG produced by the company is a biofuel that fully complies with the RED II Directive (Renewable Energy Directive (2009/28/EC)) guidelines; more precisely – it is in accordance with the requirements of the REDcert EU certification system, including ensuring the reduction of GHG emissions, showing it at the initial stage in the amount of minus 107g CO2 eq/MJ, excluding transportation to the final consumer.

As previously reported, Agrofirma Tērvete is preparing to put into operation the first liquefied biomethane (bioLNG) plant in Latvia at the beginning of 2024 with an installed liquefaction capacity of 10 t of bioLNG per day. With the expansion of the company’s dairy farming sector, the amount of manure to be processed will exceed 160,000 tons per year in the coming years, producing a renewable energy resource – bioLNG – for the needs of the European Union’s transport sector and replacing approximately 3 million liter of fossil diesel fuel per year, thus creating a significant reduction in global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions – approximately 10,000 tons of CO2 per year.

The received certificate is valid from December 19, 2023 to December 18, 2024.
